Balkris

Dear Adventurers,

I’m Balkris of House Vadalis. Perhaps, you’ve heard of me. Luckily, I’m officially available for hire by any true adventuring party seeking a truer blade in their service.

It beseeches me to set forth on a quest of personal enlightenment and what better to quell existential dread than travel?

I have taken leave of the Vadalis family estate with my trusted retainers, Marvis and Jarvis, and my young squire, Travis. They will be nothing but helpful on our future journeys.

As a gentleman of the upper echelon, I’ve sadly had limited time to meet the sort who deem it a worthy endeavor to go forth and seek adventure. Thus this notice, I’ve had posted around Sharn. Contact me and my services could be yours as long as your blades are for a true cause.

As I was saying before I take over the accounting of my family’s hunting lands I would truly adore a few years sharpening my wit and skills against people of all caste.

Though, I worry one such as me will have unfair advantages. Not everyone grows up with their own weapon-master to teach them blades, training in letters and the sciences from the best tutors, and meals any time they please from their personal cooks.

Nevertheless, I’ve suffered hardships as well.

I seek the life of a gentleman adventurer to learn more of my true origins. As an orphan adopted by house Vadalis, it seems only right to learn of the Kalashtar who gave me up especially as my dreams haunt me more and more. It’s almost as if they call on my very being to go forth and pursue enlightenment.

Yours truly,

A Nobleman Seeking Adventure.

Fie

Fie is a mysterious changeling warlock. Her origin is unknown, and she was an ordinary urchin from Sharn. When she was 20 years old, she was wandering the backstreets of Lower Dura when she found a very old rusty dagger. It seemed like an ordinary dagger, but it actually contained a fragment of Sora Kell’s spirit. Sora Kell is a legendary night hag in Eberron. The spirit in the dagger offered to give power to Fie in exchange for fulfilling future mission which can’t be refused. Sora Kell’s purpose is a mystery, and even her daughters do not know her intentions. The fragment of her spirit in Fie’s dagger also hides its purpose, even from Fie. In the moment when the pact was made, the spirit said that it will require a price for Fie’s power some time in the future. It granted powers to Fie, but didn’t require any payment for it… until now.

Fie has three distinct personas. They are Serinna, a half elf bounty hunter who makes contracts with customers in Middle Dura; Ronaldo, a half elf male professional who solves problems related to extra-martial affairs, especially among the high class society of Upper Dura; and Bouncer, a lizardfolk famous for solving problems in Lower Dura.

Highly

Highly is a 150 cm tall male hobgoblin of fifteen years. He grew up in hiding at the top of a tall mountain with his adoptive parents. Highly was adopted by elderly human researchers in their 70s and 80s who were studying the Dhakaani goblins. Highly’s own parents were secretly communicating with the researchers and helping them in the research. But five years ago, the parents were discovered and sentenced to death. When the researchers found out, they took in Highly and raised him as their own. Highly loved music from a young ago and learned music from his goblin parents. Now, he desires revenge against the Dhakaani goblins who killed his parents. Although the researchers who adopted him tried to dissuade him, Highly is going through a stormy adolescence and refuses to listen. Highly is a somewhat immature and hot tempered youth. He left home after leaving only a message promising to return when he has become much stronger.

R. Sativus

Birdsong and the smell of earth and leaves danced on the soft breeze that permeated the woods. And there in the oldest part of that particular wood, there was a tree, a great oak tree, the hollow which was home to gnomes. They were a large family and the hollow was crowded, but nevertheless theirs was a peaceful life.

Not every gnome dreams of a peaceful life however and the youngest of this family was one such gnome. After winter comes spring, then summer then fall. For the youngest Sativus the unwavering patterns of forest life bored her.

On a windy winter day as the last leaves fell from the trees, the youngest Sativus left the hollow. She reached Sharn by spring and by summer she had put down roots in the cities shady underbelly.

Need information on a potential mark? Talk to “the Rat”. Planning a heist? “The rat” can get you a map. The youngest Sativus doesn’t commit crimes herself, no she sells information to the criminals who do. While they say 낮 말은 새가 듣고 밤 말은 쥐가 듣는다 (“Birds listen to day-words and rats listen to night-words”) you better believe Sharn’s rats are always listening.

However as cautious as she may be, her thirst for knowledge has led her to take a more hands on approach to its acquisition. Adventuring.

As she ventures forth, and has more hand-on encounters with the people of Sharn, she will undoubtedly learn and grow. In what direction however can not yet be divined.

Reckoner

Hello companions. As we have overcome many demanding challenges together so I believe it is time I informed you in more detail on who I am and where I am from. While I do not deem it important I know that many humanoids feel more comfortable fighting alongside someone they are more familiar with on a personal level.

I am a Warforged crafted for use in the Karrnathi Military. I do not know, nor care why my head is crafted differently to other Warforged. This information will not help me in helping others. Specifically, I served under the honourable Raylan Givens who was a high up officer in the Order of Rekkenmark. For those unaware, the Order of Rekkenmark is an order populated by only the sharpest of Karrnathi military minds. He was a great soldier, teacher, and someone I was proud to call my ally. He taught me much during the war, I try and approach every situation in the way I believe he would. I am afraid to say that not long after the war ended my dear ally resigned from his post. I have not seen him since. As Karrnathi property I was not allowed to follow him, until I managed to buy my own freedom through doing side jobs during my free time.

Since gaining my freedom I have travelled to my dear allies home country of Breland to search for him. Without Raylan it has been very difficult to find a purpose. Without his instructions I have felt a little lost which is very strange as I am not heading towards any particular location. With no location in mind how can one feel lost?

Regardless, I hope to help the people of Breland in any way I can and am confident that if I do word will spread and I will be reunited with my dear ally, no friend once more.

Timber

From a young age, Timber was taught that shifters are supposed to stick to each other and make lifelong bonds since a young age, but he never got to experience the teachings his late mother insisted on. Whenever Timber would approach others, he would always be treated with disdain and spite. So, after his mother passed away at the age of 4, he stopped caring about trying to get along with other children and would always get into fights. One day, after getting ganged up on by the others, Timber could handle it no more and ran away from his village. After traveling for two days with no food or water, he was on his last legs when a monk found him sprawled on the forest floor. The monk took him back to his humble abode and nursed him back.

At first, Timber was wary of this stranger, expecting disdain to emanate from him, but as time passed, he noticed that the monk did not care for his appearance and respected him as a living being. The monk did not speak much, but his actions spoke louder than his words. Each day, Timber would join the monk for physical training, preparing meals, and meditation. The years passed by, and by his fifteenth birthday, Timber was bored out of his mind. Of course, he was thankful to his mentor, but eating meals without meat every day was killing him. The monk was the closest thing to a father for him, but Timber wanted to explore the world and experience new things. He decided to set off, never once hearing the monk’s name, but, nonetheless, he would always be thankful to him.

The following years were not easy for Timber. You see, apparently having sharp teeth and a big jaw is not popular. Also, having no hair, no neck and grey skin did not garner him points. Still, Timber lived his days in the city, discovering the secrets of the forms he learned during the day, and working in the shadows during the night. It was not easy life, but Timber enjoyed the freedom he had, well, until he became indebted to a certain noble.

Lily Proudfoot

Lily is a halfling girl with brown hair and brown eyes. She keeps her hair short because she doesn’t like fussing over her appearance. She hated school but muddled through. She doesn’t like reading anything other than adventure stories and hates cleaning. She’s a pretty nosy girl and often gets into trouble for mischief that she mostly sees as misunderstandings. From her father she learned a lot about locks. Like her mother, she inherited a mark that gave her the ability to heal minor ailments.

Lily’s father, Otto Proudfoot, a stout but dexterous halfling from the Talenta Plains, decided to come to Sharn to seek his fortune. He found work as a locksmith and met his wife, Rose Greenhand, a woman of significant healing powers and unfailing kindness. They had only one child and named her Lily. The little family lived happily, though modestly, together in the city.

One day, not long after her 11th birthday, a letter arrived for her father. Lily doesn’t know what was in the letter but remembers that her parents looked very worried. The next night, Lily’s parents sat her down and explained that she had to go and live at a house of healing because they had to go on a very important and dangerous journey. Lily cried and begged to be allowed to go with them, but her parents insisted that she was too young to travel with them. The next morning, they went to a house of healing. Her dad knocked. A priest answered the door.

She would always remember that as the worst moment of her life. The feeling of standing in front of a stranger, the impeding sense of loneliness and fear, the tears in her mother’s eyes, the concerned frown on her dad’s brow, how small and confused she felt. Everything pooled together in a tight knot in the pit of her stomach.

After talking to the priest for a moment, Lily’s dad grabbed her shoulders a little too tightly and said: “Don’t worry, Sweetpea. Our family luck will guide us back to each other. Please be a good girl and learn as much as you can. We love you and we’re proud of you, our brave girl.” Lily’s mom just wiped away tears and handed her something tied in a cloth. Lily gasped. It was a big, shiny stone. It was beautiful! As she marveled at it, she heard her mother say: “It’s okay, she’s sane.” One last kiss, one last hug, one last look, and they were gone. After what felt like a long time, Lily looked up at the priest. The priest smiled kindly at her and said, “Welcome, Sane. We’re happy to have you.”

The name stuck, even after the misunderstanding was cleared up. For the next 5 years Lily, now called Sane, worked at the house of healing. She mostly tended to wounded soldiers, sick people and the never-ending complaints of the local hypochondriacs. After the war, when there were significantly fewer patients, she mostly cleaned. From time to time she had to help at one of the temples of Olladra. It was tedious, boring work with only few interesting events now and then. One day, a sick person left a newspaper at the house of healing. they were reading a story about an amazing, heroic adventurer who was accomplishing incredible things right there in the city. Sane was captivated. Obviously, this was the right job for her! Not the incessant cleaning required by the hospital or the temple. If she had to take detailed notes about the ache in Mr. Bulbo Fulvus’s imaginary fifth limb again she was going to pull every single strand of hair out of her head. She needed to get out of this rut and fast.

If only she could become a tough and strong adventurer like the amazing hero Balkris d’Vadalis! Then she could fight evil, find riches and be reunited with her parents. It’s been so long! She wasn’t 11 anymore. She is practically all grown up. She can fight and do things! Whatever it is that her parents are dealing with, she is sure she can help. All she has to do is find them or draw their attention somehow. If they heard that she was saving the city with the amazing hero Balkris d’Vadalis they would surely see that she is old and strong enough to help them with anything.

Sane used what little money she had to buy some weapons and equipment. After practicing for weeks with her knives and crossbow, she decided to seek out the amazing hero Balkris d’Vadalis. Hopefully he would see that she had a lot of potential and agree to let her join in his amazing adventures. Surely that would be the start of great things and a reunion with her beloved parents, who were never far from her thoughts.
