Having reclaimed the Reclamation of Lhazaar, the heroes faced new mysteries. The warforged crew who joined the heroes handed over a treasure chest containing powerful elemental spirits from the endless ocean beneath the frozen plains of Risia. These spirits were a group of Water Fairies, powerful elementals whom Valenn had long sought ever since he had first set out to become an adventurer. Having discovered them at last, Valenn now resolved to keep the Water Fairies safe from all harm and help them to discover their true purpose or find their way home.
More urgently, several members of the Reclamation’s crew had experienced strange visions of an enchanted lighthouse somewhere along the shores of Lake Cyre, far to the north of Seaside’s harbor. In their visions, the lighthouse appeared to be emanating powerful psionic energies, like a beacon that drew moths toward it. Believing that the beacon might have something to do with recent events, such as the arrival of the Oblex and the ghostly apparitions that had possessed the warforged sailors, the heroes embarked on an expedition to the lighthouse.
However, the heroes were unwilling to travel over land and abandon their newly reclaimed vessel. Therefore, they resolved to sail eastwardly around the continent, past Valenar, Q’barra, the Lhazaar Principalities, the Mror Holds, and Karrnath to ultimately arrive in the north of Khorvaire, from whence they would sail down Scion’s Sound and the river that fed into the northern bay of Lake Cyre. Though the journey would take several months at least, the Reclamation possessed the power to travel through time, which would allow the heroes to arrive at the lighthouse only a day after their departure from the port of Seaside, if they would choose it to be so.
As the Reclamation set sail, a strange mist engulfed them. How long they had been traveling through the endless mist, none could tell. But in time, the vessel arrived at the harbor of Taer Zanathar, along the western shore of the elven nation of Valenar.
Things were not as the heroes had expected at the keep of the Valaes Tairn elves. Myrnas knew from his travels that Taer Zanathar ought to be a bustling outpost, but the place where the Reclamation had arrived was a ruin that appeared to have been abandoned long ago.
The heroes also found themselves in the middle of a standoff between two vessels, one manned by Valenar defenders of the ruins and the other crewed by a pair of ogre magi and their sailors from the distant continent of Sarlona. The elves sought to defend their ancestral lands from outsiders, but they seemed to be afraid of a more powerful force that was coercing them. Meanwhile, the ogre magi were dream merchants who sought safe passage to smuggle contraband into the continent of Khorvaire.
The heroes chose to help the Valenar elves defend the ancestral lands from the dream merchants. They turned back the ogre magi, slaying one of them and turning the other to flight. They then learn a startling truth from the Valenar elves: they had arrived at a point in time several centuries after they had left Seaside.
Taer Zanathar, 1200s YK
The strange mist had transported the Reclamation and her crew into the future, when the use of powerful weapons purchased from a drow weapons dealer from Xen’Drik had caused the Second Mourning. This catastrophic event devastated large swathes of land across Khorvaire and left all but a few pockets of the continent a barren waste, polluted by the arcane energies that had once been confined to the Mournland. Taer Zanathar was among the communities that were laid waste by the Second Mourning, and in its ruined halls, there arose a dark power of madness and undeath: A Death Tyrant had laid claim to the once hallowed halls built by the ancestors of the Valaes Tairn elves.
The heroes offered to lend aid to the elves by destroying the Death Tyrant whom they had long feared. They delved into the ruins of Taer Zanathar and sought out the monster that laired within. They fought the hideous creature and put it to flight, but to their dismay it escaped using the powers of chronomancy! The heroes pursued the Death Tyrant through the river of Time, until the monster sought to parlay with them by delving into their minds and offering each of the heroes, and the members of the crew aboard the Reclamation, what they most sorely desired. Yet the heroes were not swayed by temptation, and they accomplished their mission by destroying the monster once and for all.
The Realm of Dreams
The efforts of the heroes were not without cost. The Death Tyrant had been aided by a powerful patron that commanded the powers of chronomancy, divination, and enchantment. This mysterious entity placed a spell upon the heroes and all the members of the crew aboard the Reclamation, causing everyone to fall into a deep sleep. In their endless dreams and nightmares, each of the heroes relived a crucial and formative moment of their past.
Gerkin had a dream of his first meeting with Kalli Alran on the front lines of the Last War.
Burdok relived his homecoming after the war, when he found only barren wastes where his home had once been, making him determined to restore the green woods of his past.
Tabrius remembered his childhood with Dahlia Hawthorne and the infamous document theft that led to the presumed treason of the Hawthorne family.
Myrnas was tormented by the loss of his beloved Bomal, a dragonmarked half-elf bodyguard of House Medani whose execution and Myrnas’ own excoriation from House Lyrandar had led Myrnas to set out on the path of adventure.
S.I.M.P.L.E. returned to the day before the Mourning when a strange sensor reading frightened him into desertion and the murder of his own commanding officer, RGM-79.
Elynvashir recalled her eleventh birthday when her father Kalhenvashir saved her from a temporal portal and was pulled in instead, transporting him to another point in time and resulting in a series of events that led to his transformation into a lycanthrope and eventual disappearance.
Sava dreamt of a moment that had come to pass when she was only an infant, a primal memory that was not in her waking consciousness but buried deep in her bones, somewhere within her subconscious mind.
Sava had been born to tiefling parents in a small tiefling commune somewhere in Droamm. The village was burned to the ground and all the tieflings except for Sava were massacred by Brelish mercenaries, led by Sava’s adoptive father.
Through the arcane powers of oneiromancy, the party traveled through the realm of dreams and into Sava’s dream vision of the past, where they confronted their adversary: a rogue time traveler bent on removing Sava from the timeline by altering her past. Sava’s absence would set off a chain reaction through the timeline that would ultimately bring ruin to the heroes aboard the Reclamation of Lhazaar. Fortunately, the heroes defeated their foe and saved the infant Sava, though they were too late to save Sava’s village and family.
When the heroes returned to the waking world, they were dismayed to find that many among their crew had succumbed to the cruel fate designed for Sava and had vanished from history.
With only a skeletal crew remaining to man the Reclamation, the heroes attempted to navigate their vessel and return to their original point of departure in time. But something went awry, and they found themselves hurtling across the river of time to a point in the distant past.
As they passed the shores of Valenar and arrived on the coasts of Q’barra, they found jungles that were completely untouched by the encroachment of Cyran refugees of the Last War, dragonmarked houses, and even the kingdom of Galifar itself. For they had arrived at a moment in history when the kingdom was still young, and the son of Galifar I sat upon the throne.
